Enterprise Architect
Volvo Trucks Group Trucks Technology (GTT)
Project Scope
The assignment for Volvo Trucks Group Trucks Technology (GTT) had three key components, with the most significant being the role of Enterprise Architect for the NHTSA SDAI Project (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) in the North American market. This project involved building a new platform, SDAI – Safety Data Analytics Infrastructure, designed to manage safety-related incidents and assess whether they are severe enough to warrant a vehicle recall or component replacement. The platform’s systems utilize advanced analytics, including AI and Machine Learning, to process data, manage cases, and generate reports, which are then submitted to regulatory authorities. The project spans over three years and has a budget of approximately 250 MSEK.
Role and Responsibilities
As Enterprise Architect, the role primarily involved designing and overseeing the architecture of the SDAI platform to ensure seamless integration and adherence to the highest standards of data management, security, and regulatory compliance. This architecture not only facilitated efficient handling of safety data but also enabled predictive analytics to anticipate potential safety issues.
Additionally, the assignment included participation in the GTT Enterprise Architect Committee (EAC), which evaluates new IT initiatives within GTT to ensure they align with the Northstar Architecture Principles—the IT guidelines and regulations governing Volvo Trucks. This role was critical in maintaining consistency and strategic alignment across various IT projects within the organization.
The final component of the assignment was to provide IT architecture support for projects developing new processes and IT tools within the certification domain. Certification is a vital part of the production process for new trucks, as vehicles must comply with all local government regulations in the countries where they are sold.
Outcome
The SDAI project will deliver a robust and scalable platform that enhanced Volvo Trucks’ ability to comply with safety regulations in North America, enabling the company to manage safety data more efficiently and improve the recall process. By applying AI and Machine Learning technologies, the platform provided significant improvements in the analysis of safety incidents, helping Volvo anticipate and respond to potential issues before they escalated. The work within the GTT EAC will further ensure that new IT initiatives will be aligned with strategic goals, while the efforts in certification processes strengthen Volvo’s ability to meet diverse regulatory demands globally.
